Ah. I see now. It only populates the custom.conf file with the Xorg
command line if you change it in gdmsetup. This begs the question--
where is gdmsetup getting this information? Obviously it knows what the
default Xorg command line is.
Don't challenge me like that; now I had to check :-)
The answer seems to be /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf. Note that gdmsetup is
quite strange and needs to be communicate with a running "gdm" instance,
or it won't start. Quite a strange design if you ask me.
