Dear list, I've downloaded turbovnc_1.0.2_i386.deb for a 32 bit Ubuntu 11.10 system.
When installing the .deb, with the Ubuntu packet manager, I get the notification "bad quality" before installing: "Lintian check results for /home/ande/Downloads/turbovnc_1.0.2_i386.deb: Use of uninitialized value $ENV{"HOME"} in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/bin/lintian line 112. E: turbovnc: maintainer-address-missing The VirtualGL Project [http://www.VirtualGL.org]" Is it a good idea to proceed? When I install it with gdebi, it seems to work fine.. so this might be a minor glitch. As I need only the viewer here, I do nothing else. ------ I managed to install turbovnc-1.0.2.x86_64 on another 64 bit AMD system (Scientific Linux 6.1 = RHEL 6.1) being root. I'd like to have a multi-user system. So, in order to start slowly, I add this to /etc/sysconfig/tvncservers: VNCSERVERS="1:user" VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1900x1200 -nohttpd -localhost" I start the service as root with # service start tvncserver and get a positive result. nmap on localhost and on my own ip, made from the box itself shows the right open ports: 5901/tcp open vnc-1 6001/tcp open X11:1 If I issue nmap from another machine / IP, everything appears to be closed. There are no iptables rules or default policy that might block that traffic. I've already turned off selinux with setenforce 0. I can connect to the box from outside with ssh, but see no open port (not even port 22) when nmap'ing from outside. I know this must be a Scientific Linux or RHEL related problem, but you might all have the same issue when using RHEL out of the box like I did. Maybe the .rpm can be improved, too :-/ Cheers Andreas
