But the performance is so vastly different that I don' think it's an issue of compression settings - it looks more like an issue of software-accelerated 3D rendering not working at all. Instead of seeing 3D "ribbon" models of proteins rotating smoothly, we experience major delays while each protein's ribbon draws very slowly, and then if we are lucky enough to see rotation working, it's very flickery / stuttered. > Why can't you use VirtualGL? We are still waiting for access to GPUs on our VMs. We'll get them eventually, but for now, we have no choice but to demonstrate our 3D software on VMs without GPUs. We also use a physical HPC system which already has GPUs, but deploying our software on VMs on the cloud is a critical part of our project and our progress reports are due well before the GPUs are likely to arrive.
