Yes, much easier.  I was in the process of refactoring the code in trunk 
to improve maintainability, prior to implementing some new features.  It 
became clear that the Exceed-specific code was responsible for an undue 
proportion of the complexity, given how few people use it.

Other candidates for removal include transparent overlay and color index 
rendering support, neither of which is even in the OpenGL spec anymore 
(although they still seem to work with nVidia's drivers.)
