There has been a
>performance by Vanessa in Munich for the Michael Jackson and friends,... go
>to http://www.mcy.com and see a short bio on Vanessa, and short backstage
>interview (video). The concert was also broadcast on the web. Did anyone
>attend the concert and can give a summary of Vanessa's 15 minute set.

I didn't attend, but i listened to the concert over the web. Vanessa began
with a performance of Tocatta and fugue. After the opening chords the crowd
went wild, apart from that it sounded similar to the live version on the
"Devil's trill" single. She then adressed the audience in english. she said
she was really proud to be performing for all the charities and amongst all
the other artists. She then said something in German, probably something
like "you are a great audience" but my german is pretty rusty and i can't
remember the words she used. One of them was "publico" (sorry if spelling is
wrong) After this she performed Storm. There were large spaces with only
backing track as Vanessa moved around the stage. She eventually made her way
to a small podium within the first few rows of the crowd, where she finished
storm and linked straight into devil's trill. After this, the crowd were
fairly exstatic and Vanessa went crowd surfing! If you're wondering how i
know about this from an audio only broadcast, well the concert was broadcast
on BBC1 in an edited hour long programme a week later. A similar programme
should have been available at least in europe, and the Seoul concert in
Asia, don't know about America. Anyway, in the programme Vanessa was given
more airtime than any of the other non-michael-jackson artists. This
included Boyzone, All saints and lots of other big names. Some of the
artists in the concert weren't even shown on t.v. so this is quite an
acheivement. They showed her set from the announcement to the crowd to some
of the crowd surfing shots, in all about ten minutes long.

aside from that, vanessa helped launch the Rover 75 in London just as the
list went off line. This was shown in detail on at least south east news
shows in the UK, maybe national ones as well. She played the "car horn
symphony" by the guy from the eurythmics. she was accompanied by the royal
philharmonic and seventy five car horns. She stood on top of a car and i saw
a brief interview where she said it was good that she was able to combine
her love of cars with her love of music. she posed for publicity shots with
the composer, and her electric violin seems to have been repainted as it was
for eurovision 98, this time dark blue with (i think, this is from memory
after all) a union jack.

anyway, that's all for now.

michael.
