New Operating System --
Operating System / Virtual Universe (OS/VU)

Operating System/Virtual Universe is a new System Control
Program available for use on any IBM 7090 central processing
unit.  This operating system can significantly increase user
productivity while reducing typical requirements of end user
technical expertise.

While running under OS/VU, the individual user appears to have
not merely a machine of his or her own, but an entire universe in
which the user can set up and take down programs, datasets,
system networks, personnel, and planetary systems.  The user need
only specify the universe desired, and the OS/VU system
generation program, IEHGOD, does the rest.  This program resides
in the system control library SYS1.GODLIB.  The minimum time
required for complete system generation is six (6) days of system
processing, and one (1) day for review.  As a standard feature of
OS/VU, a new system utility is provided.  This utility,
IEHPROPHET, resides in the authorized system library SYS1.MESSIAH
and replaces all other system utilities.  In order to simplify
operation of this utility, no parameter statements are required;
the utility knows what the user wants to do when it is invoked.

Naturally, the support personnel must have attained a certain
degree of sophistication and proficiency in the data processing
field in order to achieve efficient and effective use of OS/VU.
Frequent calls to non-resident galaxies, for instance, can lead
to unexpected delays in the execution of a job.  Although IBM,
through it's wholly-owned subsidiary, the United States, is
working on a program to upgrade the speed of light and thus
reduce the overhead of extraterrestrial and metadimensional
paging, users must be careful for the present to stay within the
current laws of physics.  IBM will charge an additional fee for
violations.

OS/VU will run on any IBM 7090 central processor equipped with
the Extended WARP feature.  Rental under the MLC rental plan is
twenty million dollars ($20,000,000) per cpu/nanosecond.

Users should be aware that IBM plans to migrate all existing
systems and hardware to OS/VU when our engineers have effected
one output that is (conceptually) error free.  This will give us
a base to develop an even more powerful operating system,
targeted for availability in the 4th quarter of year 2010, and
designated Virtual Reality.  OS/VR is planned to enable the user
to migrate to totally unreal universes.  To aid the user in
identifying the difference between Virtual Reality and Real
Reality, a file containing a linear arrangement of multisensory
total records of successive moments of now will be provided.  The
name given the system library which will contain these records is
SYS1.EST.
