Pretty much.....

I believe for VM, all we did with the hardware folks was verify we had the correct number of chpids and drives. Now depending on where your TMC resides, you might have more discussions with the Tape area... We own our TMC on VM. However, to read a VM tape on OS, there needs to be a process to update their TCDB. (Also, just an FYI - with TPF in the mix - you need to make sure chpids aren't shared at the director level with z/OS, but that's another story)....

For RMS, we updated:

DGTVAUTH DATA file - with authorized user id's that can do DFSMSRM commands
DGTVCNTL DATA file - need the ATL serial numbers (most important) and a few other tidbits in the RMS portion of the file
RMCONFIG DATA file - need to add the device numbers

Relatively simple....

Re: Fw: z/VM and shared IBM 3494 Library.

Thanks, Christy; I appreciate it. We do have RMS available under VM.

1) What do I need to tell the z/OS guys? They're the ones that actually
"own" the hardware; do they need to do anything special to accommodate VM?
2) How do I configure the RMS part? I need to know the ATL serial
number, right, and the addresses of the (virtual) tape drives it
supports, correct?

Thanks again.
