We have a couple line printers (IBM 4245 Model 20 and IBM 6262). We
also have a 92 PPM laser that handles most of our printing load. But we
can't seem to wean our selves off of multipart forms. Hense impact
printers (for now).

The impact printers now have a rather high failure rate, and the
maintenance is also high.

We are starting to think about replacement for next budget year (July
1).

As we don't have control on the forms are are used (the departments
dictate such), upgrading to new (or newer) line printers would be more
politically easy.

Converting each department/division/agency to laser is a fight with
each department/division/agency.

So, what is currently available in line printers in the 1K to 2K LPM
range?

I'm still pushing for laser, but that would also impact:

The bursters.
The check signers
The envelope stuffers
The presealed envelopes such as you get with W-2s.

Just a whole slew of hardware, procedures, controls would have to be
revamped.

I would rather they still be controled by Power and/or RSCS, but I
could live with more Operations training.

Thanks
