I have zVM 5.1 loaded on the DS6800 with a couple of guest zVM 3.1 systems in a test environment.
I am experiencing intermittent problems. Yesterday as I was building CMS, I got error messages that applied to the spool. The messages indicated there was a problem with the hardware. I called this in as a hardware problem and waited until the CE came in before I tried to resolve it with an IPL of the system. After I IPLed zVM 5.1, the spooling problem went away. Another intermittent problem occurs when I IPL the zVM 3.1 system. The command "IPL 100 CLEAR" often will fail before eventually IPLing the RES volume for the zVM 3.1 system. I realize I should also report this as a software problem, but currently we do not have maintenance for zVM 5.1. The procurement people seem to think it will take a while before the contract is awarded. I have no idea why the intermittent problems are occurring. Nor do I have any idea how to begin to tackle it given I am constrained by not having a software maintenance contract. Please help. (I have a very short window to get this system into production...)
