Thanks for the try.  But I found the problem.  I had a dash coded in the
Organization name and it did not like it.  Have not seen anything in the
documentation stating any restrictions on what special characters can be
used in the fields.

It indicates a problem encoding or decoding an object using ASN.1.  'fn' 
is the filename of the your X509INFO file, which must contain, at a 
minimum, something like:

Common myserver.state.co.us
Organization State of Colorado (or whatever)
