Actually, you CAN run z/OS.e on a z990 if you change the LICENSE statement in IEASYS00 to say LICENSE=Z/OS. IBM told us we could do this for our DR customers. Hopefully this makes things easier for you.

We have real ESCON CTCs between these two LPARS for GRS between z/OS.e and z/OS. Both of these z/OS(.e) systems are at the 1.6 level. The z/OS system is a guest under z/VM 5.1. We have just found out that our Disaster Recovery vendor does not have any hardware that will support z/OS.e. We are looking at the possibility of running two z/OS guests under z/VM in a single LPAR. We could then use virtual CTCs between these two guests for GRS. Does z/VM's support/emulation of CTC's allow for "GRS in a ring configuration without sysplex"? In the real I/O configuration this requires BCTC definitions. /Tom Kern /301-903-2211
