Speaking of archives, is there a searchable archive for VMSHARE? Regards, Richard Schuh

Chuckie must be back in his cage today. Usually his response to such a question would include elaborate commentary about reading the manuals, that the standard IBM-provided translation tables are simply examples which should be replaced with those specific to the site running FTP, and perhaps even suggesting that he "spits on your French character accents"! Letting Alan reply was much appreciated, and certainly more productive (the examples will live forever on the listserve archives) for those visiting and searching the archives from (gentle hint): http://listserv.uark.edu/archives/vmesa-l.html Mike Walter Hewitt Associates The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, not my employer's. This was indeed discussed extensively recently. The answer is to specify the correct translation table on the FTP. See the TRANSLATE option if using the VM FTP client. See "site xlate" if using the VM FTP server. Windows is code page 1252, so translation table selection is xxxx1252, where xxxx depends on what version of "French" you mean: 0037 = US/Canada (1140 w/Euro), 0297 = France (1147 w/Euro). Essentially, xxxx must be the host code page number you have configured into your 3270 emulator. E.g. FTP ....
