You certainly have a compelling argument for not defining expanded
storage. Are you absolutely positively sure that you will never ever
ever have another Linux guest on this VM system? Can you really be sure?
Even if you define a little (256MB) it will help when you get in to a
paging situation (notice I didn't say if).

Hello,
we are at VM 4.4 and currently working on our memory setup.
Our VM will have 4GB, only one Linux Guest with 1 or max 2GB storage,
512MB swap vdisk for this linux guest.
Remaining storage 512mb is for CP, some VM Users (TCP, administration
users, ...) and MDC.
Because we almost are V=R we probably will lock the pages of the Linux
Guest, so there should not
be any significant paging.
Is there any advantage if some of the storage is used as expanded
storage? my colleague phones
with a ibm guy who told him that - if using more than 2 gig - some
expanded storage is recommended
(he suggested 512mb) to help vm with "internal" management.
I checked with concepts and administration guide but did not find any
recommendations.
Because we almost stay V=R with our memory setup i do not see any
benefit from defining 512mb
expanded (e.g. for faster paging).
Any comment appreciated......
Thanks, Stefan
