The "New Way" is in effect if QUERY CPUID shows you the trailing '8000'. It began with the z990 and continued on z890 and System z9. CMS doesn't care what STIDP returns, it just uses it to look up entries in SYSTEM NETID. If you don't have RSCS, then you can have a SYSTEM NETID with just a comment line as CMS will use the CP system id as the default node id. I.e.
