Emacs was ported commercially to VMS 3.x? I started using VMS back in the 3.x days... before TPU! I've always suspected that TPU was inspired by Emacs, "improved" with a Pascal-like extension language rather than LISP. Emacs came out of MIT and I often thought that there must have been a lot of cross-polination between DEC Engineering and MIT (going allllllllllll the way back to Ken Olson coming out of MIT originally!). Does anyone out there have any background or history on the origin of TPU to support or discredit this theory of mine? This is really getting to be seriously OT. If I'm upsetting any vmsperl folks with this SPAM, please send me private email and I'll knock it off. > -----Original Message----- > From: Carl Friedberg [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, May 01, 2000 12:06 PM > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'; Richard Levitte - VMS Whacker > Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: OT ramble, was RE: Any interest in porting emacs 20.x to > OpenVMS v7.x > > > Eric, > > As I'm learning a bit of *nix these days, and had used emacs > eons ago on a > VAX 3.x system, I'm delighted to hear that it's coming back > to VMS.
