Just curious. I downloaded the binary source from cpan for perl5.6
compiled against alpha 7.21,7.2,6.2, and tested on my system. None of
them had the system() problem, and your system did not have the same
problem either. Can this situation only occur on our specific version
(vms alpha 7.12 with dec c 6.0)? I have some doubt, but can not
explain it:)
