Peter has covered how this all works much more thoroughly than I could
have, but we won't know the answer to your question for sure until the
next snapshot comes out and we can test it. Missing config variables
usually show up as compile failures and are quickly spotted; more subtle
changes such as reworded configuration questions depend on the alertness
of the VMS porters. Since our alertness has been known to flag, I see
no harm in cc'ing vmsperl about configuration changes. It's really not
reasonable to expect you to make changes in our configure.com since it's
written in a rather funky language that you don't have the ability to test.
