Have a look at VMS::Stdio : $ perldoc VMS:Stdio specifically either calling vmsopen with "ctx=bin" as the optional VMS-specific argument. Or after it's open, call VMS::Stdio::binmode on the filehandle. You may also need to pay attention to the size of the mailbox by setting the PERL_MBX_SIZE logical name; if the mailbox buffer isn't big enough, the I/O could still be broken up in pieces yielding multiple records. -- ________________________________________ Craig A.
