It should be noted that E8.2 is an engineering field test for a version 
of VMS that has not yet been released (but probably will be in the next 
month or two).  Version 6.2 of the C compiler is about five years old I 
think.  It looks like 6.0 and later are supposed to be supported on VMS 
8.2, but that doesn't mean an early adopter's kit of a very new OS has 
been extensively tested in combination with a somewhat older compiler.  
 With C 6.4 on VMS E8.2 I'm so far unable to reproduce any of the 
issues Abe is seeing.
