No you didn't, integrating the y2038 branch beat you to it :-).
That is, I've (with help from others) converted the make_patchnum.sh to a perl script, and reworked the *nix build process so it now uses miniperl to build. When it is building miniperl the first time it uses a precanned header file.
That makes a lot of sense. Things will be in pieces on the floor for awhile, but we'll get them back together eventually.
