For "Linux" also substitute Mac OS X or anything unixy, including Cygwin. And git is available for Windows: <http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/ >.

Plus there is a mirror of Perl's git repository on github: <http://github.com/github/perl/tree/blead >. There is a download link that will generate zipballs or tarballs on the fly.
