You've got the right version of Perl.  But MMS doesn't work; the rules for 
building extensions are just a bit too complicated for it.  MMK works fine, 
though, so just use that.  It's currently available from 
<https://github.com/endlesssoftware/mmk>.  Unfortunately it now requires SDL to 
build from source so you'll needs SDL from one of the freeware distributions.  
Or just use an older version of MMK, such as 
<http://vms.process.com/scripts/fileserv/fileserv.com?MMK>.
