 sorry for the long wait. I see that both windows (rendering and pypepad) are 
"non-responding"

Given that the CPU usage is low, this might be a memory allocation issue - I've 
seen this sorts of things on Windows, but admittedly I don't have a lot of 
experience with it.

Did you try selecting a smaller VOI around the features of interest using 
vmtkimagevoiselector? I know this is a sub-optimal solution, but at least we 
know if it is indeed a memory issue or it's something different.

Let me know if you need help with extracting the VOI.
