No, it's a possible solution. be it a nice one ;-) > I am trying to access a system that is giving me a problem. > > Here is my basic setup. > > SunSparc5 ------- SunSolaris8 box----internet-------home pc > > The Sparc5 system is running a limited version of Sun OS > 4.1.3 and is a > mission critial system that cannot be changed. The best thing is to ask for an update of the app, it has a clear X11 bug as it cannot show at not-0 displays. In my SunOS 4.1.3 days (which are mixed with HP-UX 9.x) I had several similar problems. Patching the X11 environment, specially the X11 libraries did some tricks here. An alternate solution is getting an display:0 in a vncserver. I have some routes: Route 1: arrange a M$Windows PC with a X11 server (PC-Xware, EXceed are some expensive ones, I don't know if XFree is available for M$Windows) Then add vncserver to this machine. Then on SunOS4: $DISPLAY=MSWindows:0.0 which does work. Then from you home vncviewr mswindows:0. Route 2: arrage Xvnc at Solaris8:0. This needs root privileges and worst of all, it removes X11 windows from the console! debug the vncserver script to find the exact call to Xvnc. Try to find where Xsun is started. Exchange that with the Xvnc call you found (except for the display setting. Put that to the same as Xsun (0 or none at all) Route 3: exchange Solaris8 with linux (either PC hardware or sparc hardware): Be sure to run XFree 4 and search the archive (about last month) for the vncserver module to include in XFree 4. > > Any suggestions or help would be appreciated?!?!? ;-) The above suggestions are in order of be-ing sure that it will work but in reverse order of the best thing to do (from my point of view) CBee _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
