Excuse me but I've not thought your problem through thoroughly and in a rush right now
but fwiw:
I assume (its the way of these things) that there's no way the app is going to be
enhanced.
I have had success with port mapping 6001 to 600n using both Unix & PC portmapping
software so perhaps
the approach is to map the Solaris8:0 to Solaris8:4 (port 6000 to 6004 port mapping on
Solaris8 workstation).
the app still only needs toknow about :0 (port 600) so need not change.
