Garry:

There isn't much difference between connecting on the local LAN and over
the internet. You have to know the IP address of the router (Internet
IP) and the router has to have the capability to do port forwarding.
Another problem may exist with your ISP - they may block access to the
ports necessary (5800 or 5900).

So forward port 5900 in the router to the IP address of your W98 machine
and connect from home to the internet IP address of the router.
