Hi. Having been recently introduced to VNC, I'm a "newbie", too, posting
for the first time to a newsgroup.

I've run into a problem running vncviewer on a UNIX system trying to connect
to a PC server, getting a "read failed" error after authentication
succeeded. From the protocol documentation, it's some problem during either
the client or server initialization... so, I'm trying to find out where I
can get more information about it. I've read about log files on UNIX
servers, but haven't determined where the troubleshooting files are on PC
servers. Does anyone have a pointer to where I could look?

It looks like "read failed" is a fairly common problem, but none of the
solutions offered (from the more recent postings) appear to apply to this
situation. Has anyone seen this type of connectivity issue before? Would the
log file contain more information about why a connection was rejected?

vncviewer was run three different ways, each of them failing:

Also tried to connect using the java browser and that failed. ping showed a
connection.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
