***** MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE *****

On my network...

Windows (viewer) - Windows (server) * works good
Linux (viewer) - Windows (server) * works good
Linux (viewer) - Linux (server) * listen mode reverse connection only

Windows (viewer) - Linux (server)* does not work
I execute the viewer from my Windows box and enter the host and port
(hostIP:port), it doesn't give an error message....nothing happens. The
error log from the server states that the "Connection from [IPADDRESS]
was refused".

Linux (viewer) - Linux (server)* does not work
This works in listen mode only using a reversed force connection
(vncconnect). When I try to connect normally, I get the error message,
"vncviewer: VNC Server closed the connection". In the server error
log, it again states that "Connection from [IPADDRESS] was refused".

I ran a port scan on the server, and ports 5801 and 5901 are open.
Also, the Linux server does appear to be running because I can reverse
connect to it.

When I initiate the viewer, I usually do so with this command...I think
this is probably where I am going wrong...

vncviewer [ipaddress]:5901

I initiate the server using the following command, although I have tried
using many different combinations of the available options...

vncserver

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

Now, to answer some questions.....
I cannot use the web browser to get into 5801. Also, I did run the port
scan mentioned above from a different client on the network. There is
no firewall in between the two clients. I have been asked to try to
TELNET in through port 5901. Sorry, I am not sure how to do that. I
can, however, telnet into port 23.

Thanks!
