I'll assume you check on the syntax (address:display) mentioned earlier
and that didn't work.  Did you install the Java classes when you
installed VNC (they are separate, unlike MSWindows)?  I assume yes since
your port scan is showing 5801 open.

To telnet (I think the syntax is the same for Linux and Windows) you use
"telnet ip 5901".

Are you sure the VNCserver is still running?  Try doing the "vncserver
-kill :1" and then "vncserver :1" again to restart it.
