"Best" is a very personal determination.  Since most of the VNC variants are
free (as in beer, they all must be free as in speech), just try them out.

Security measures very between the different versions, too.  My feelings
fall more in line with the RealVNC people in that if you want it secure,
tunnel it through something else that you know is secure. YMMV.
