I finally got the Internet/local network with VNC running under W98 to work and
thought some on the list might be interested to know what the problem was.

It wasn't W98 (as I had thought) or VNC, but rather the firewall software. On a whim I
changed to another company's software and instantly everything worked.

The trick with W98 for dual access (by the way) is to create two TCP/IP services, one
with the local address for the computer on the network, and the second left so it can
be assigned
an address. Then everyone gets along. An added plus is that by setting up the W98
Network Neighborhood, I can now exchange files between computers as well.

The end result has been a "super computer" with combined drives, memory, and other
peripherals. Now I can be burning CDs or FTPing huge files AND doing other work
without danger
of running out of resouces and locking up the computer.

VNC is great!
