Sounds like the problem of VNC getting "shift" or "alt" confused, thinking
that you are holding them down.  Next time try pressing and releasing your
"shift" and/or "alt" keys and see if that works.  "Ctrl" might have a
problem, too, but I don't believe I've ever seen that.

BTW - What version of VNC are you running.  I think this was mosting fixed
in one of the later versions, but I can't find anything to back that up.
