Thanks: will try pressing them next time. Sorry, this is obviously a 
FAQ; but I was searching for the wrong question!

Sorry, should have said. RealVNC 3.3.6 host. Client mostly via Java 
(because no VNC client connects reliably from this particular 
machine; see previous messages of mine). But a quick check with 
RealVNC client 3.3.6 showed the same problem.
