Hey Scott, Just wanted to clear things up. With the pppoe software, your network card will always have the 169.x.x.x address. As this is only the (lack of better words) bridge for the pppoe. The virtual pppoe adapter will get the real address, even though they are really the same network card.

So, your WinXP box recognizes that it has two interfaces: the DSL one, and another one. That other one failed to get a useable IP address (it's probably not connected to anything), but VNC is listening to the interface anyhow.
