vnc and ssh

I am quite new to vnc and not so much experienced with firewall topics.
Is there a simple description on how to setup
VNC for use in an environment with firewall ? - Is it possible for such
connections to use an ssh server residing on a machine other than the
vnc server ? What are the configuration steps ?
