That's correct. The VNC Unix server, contrary to the PC one, does not echo
the main console display, but uses private displays from :1 onwards.
To display a desktop session (or generic X session) in the VNC server
display, you should populate the ~/.vnc/xstartup file of the user which
starts VNC. For a CDE session it's enough to exec /usr/dt/bin/Xsession.
Otherwise it is up to taste.
Having a full login screen and not jumping in the user session is more
tricky and I'm still struggling with it in my environment, but there are
pointers around.
