cotvnc and tightvnc problem

I have a co-worker running a Chicken Of The VNC client on a MacOSX 
trying to hook up to my TightVNC server running on Linux.
 He can log in with no problem, but the window that appears remains blank.
 If I open a shared connection in Windows using a generic VNC client, I 
can see the mac moving teh mouse around and clicking on things, but 
nothing shows in the mac.

Any ideas?
