You will need to configure your ADSL router to forward requests to your
internal machine.

You mention that your 'Lan has ADSL access' - I'm assuming you have a
dedicated box on the network that connects to the internet, as opposed
to an ADSL modem on a client or server machine. If this is the case,
you need to configure the 'port forwarding' option on this router to
forward incoming connections to the client machine that you want to
connect to.

Your ADSL connection will be given an IP address when it connects to the
internet. If you are using NAT (Network Address Translation) then this
is the ONLY visible IP address on the internet. To connect to your
client machine, simply attempt to connect to this IP address, and the
port forwarding rules on the router will then forward this connection
request to the client machine.

Details of how to set up port forwarding will be specific to the type of
router that you have. Basically, you should probably forward ports
5900-5910 and 5800-5810 to this client machine.

If you want the ability to connect to multiple computers on your
internal LAN, then you will need to set up different ports to connect to
different machines.

If you do not know how to configure your router, please post details of
the router that you use and somebody on the list may have information on
how to set it up.

Subject: Connection via Internet & then a Lan

One of my computers is in my home, where I connect to the internet using
dial-up. The other one is connected to the LAN (but it is not the
server). The Lan has an adsl internet connection.

The problem is that I cannot connect from home to the LAN because the
computer in the LAN doesn't have an internet IP number (it has just LAN
IP number, which I know). There is just one way (I know and it works) I
can connect to the computer at the LAN. I need to run listening mode at
home and then Add a new client from the computer in the LAN. The problem
is I want to connect from home to the LAN computer.

I really do not know how to do it. Please tell me if you know.

Sorry for bothering you and thanks in advance,

Milosz Chmura
