Tim, Logging is basically arranged so that there are multiple loggers (stderr, stdout, etc), and multiple logs (Connections, Sinput, etc).
The -log option sets a particular log, or all of them if "*" is used, to output to a particular logger, at a particular level. The level is 0 for no logging, 100 for debugging, and usually 20 or 30 for info logging. Hope that helps until we have the docs for -log ready.
