Hi,

I have seen this problem and also a related problem on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

I was running RealVNC 3.3.7 which I uninstalled via the control panel add/remove programs, rebooted, installed 4.0B3 full install. All of this went fine but I have had problems with VNC saved session files.

I found that in both cases the VNC Viewer would no longer use .VNC files I had previously created.

The install did not associate .VNC with the VNC Viewer.

I changed that but launching one gets "Attempting to connect to Host" followed by "unable to resolve host by name. No such host is known". This despite the fact that the Windows short cut

"C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\vncviewer.exe" /config C:\samasgpc.vnc

points to a .VNC file that specified the host by IP not name

[connection]
host=10.31.2.87
port=5900
password=<SNIP encoded by why take a chance>
[options]
use_encoding_0=1
use_encoding_1=1
use_encoding_2=1
use_encoding_3=0
use_encoding_4=1
use_encoding_5=1
use_encoding_6=0
use_encoding_7=0

swapmouse=0
belldeiconify=0
emulate3=0
emulate3timeout=100
emulate3fuzz=4
disableclipboard=0
localcursor=1
scale_num=1
scale_den=1

It looks like there are several problems with the .VNC file support under Windows.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

                        Sam Knutson
