If the address is in the range of 192.168.x.x, it is being assigned by the dsl modem. That range of addresses are not routable across the internet. You need to get the routable ip address of the dsl modem and see if you can log into it and see the configuration. You might try calling the dsl provider and ask them what the configuration is and explain what you are trying to do.

With that IP address I can manage there computer, but not without it. So after all that background my question is how can I log on there machine without both of us having to log on to my work network.
