BRIEF: are there any known problems (or workarounds)
with USB (or other) keyboards on PCs autorepeating slowly?

DETAIL:

Brief: whenever I start VNC (or connect to an existiing session)
autorepeat from my PC keyboard
into that VNC window is slow. There's a hack (described
below) that fixes it, but it's reall annoying.

More detail:

I have a Toshiba Portege 3505 TabletPC, running Win XP Tablet Edition.

I am using Real VNC 3.3.7.
I have also had the same problem with UltraVNC .08

I run the VNC client on my TableetPC, the server on a RedHat Linux system.

This TabletPC doees not have a PS/2 keyboard.
It only has USB. I have demonstrated this problem
   a) with BTC 9118H mini USB keyboard
a.1) pluggedinto USB on the TabletPC
a.2) pluggedinto USB on a powered USB hub
a.3) plugged into USB on a Targus USB Mobile port
            replicator
   b) with several other USB keyboards
   c) with a PS/2 keyboard plugged into a USBlink
      PS/2 kbd/mouuse to USB converter
   d) with a PS/2 keyboard plugged into the
PS/2 porrt of a.3), the targus port replicator

The problem: whenever I start a new VNC client,
the keyboard is in "slow" mode. It autorepeats,
but slowly. All keystrokes are slow.

I can "fix" the problem, by opening the latch
that holds the screen in slate mode.
Switching to tablet mode, and back again,
fixes the problem. Autorepaet works fine;
other keys are fast.

But it is very annnoying to have to do this
on a regular basis.

I thought at first the prooblem was with Toshiba's
USB. My old IBM Thinkpad A21P had a similar
problem. But this problem only affects
VNC.

Q: has anyone seen any problem like this?
