Have a look at http://www.mywanip.com and scroll down to the bottom for a
free little utility named mywanip.  They might be able to install it on
their computer and use it to tell you their actual routable IP address.  At
least it works fine for me, and I am behind a NAT router as well as the
cable modem.  But if they are behind a firewall of some sort, it just might
not allow you to initiate a connection from 'outside'.
