I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I cannot VNC from outside my Belkin wireless Cable/DSL gateway router. I have poured over many of the postings already without avail. Here is where I stand so far:
1.) I use IE to access my router's IP (192.168.2.1), and it brings up a nifty interface. 2.) I access the Virtual Servers section, and for inbound port I put 5900-5900 as well as 5800-5800. 3.) For private port I enter the same information. 4.) I point the ports my private IP address (192.168.2.15). 5.) After applying, I fire up the RealVNC Viewer and enter my WAN IP (65.40.x.x, which I found using ShieldsUp). Fails to connect to server.
ShieldsUP reports that port 5900 is closed. I have tried changing the private port to 5901, but the router will not accept the two port types to be different numbers (the screen shots will clarify). Also, if I just type in my WAN IP address into IE, a dialog box asking for my username and password pops up. My router is password protected, but it does not have a user name. Any ideas as to what this is? I posted some screen shots and some output files at http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/fsuguy/router.htm I am using Sprint DSL. I also have ZoneAlarm Pro installed, but it has not been running.
You are testing this from within the same LAN? I tried this as well
with my SMC router and it didn't work. After I dug into the SMC docs
a bit, I found that this (port forwarding) does not work when you try
to access your external address from an internal address.
Also, are you sure that your WAN IP is correct? The Belkin box should
be able to tell you your WAN IP. _______________________________________________
