Generally, if you can't ping the machine, then you have bigger issues than
VNC.  Unfortunately, I have heard of some ISPs blocking pings because of a
recent MS virus, so it isn't as absolute as it used to be.

Are either of you behind a proxy server or firewall?  Have you changed
anything in the configuration since it worked?
