VNC runs under/on the windows desk top (hence the :0), where with Linux and Unix it runs in separate instances from the desktop (:1--- :99)
The simplist method for him to see what you are doing... 1) He logs into a VNC session on your machine (say :10) 2) you log into the same session with "add" option (look at help). Then you will both be seeing the same desktop, but neither of you are looking at each others.
