You might consider switching to x11vnc, which I've had good luck with.
I haven't compared it to the x0rfbserver in vnc 4 beta, but it's
certainly faster and much more responsive than x0rfbserver classic. The
CPU consumption is much reduced despite the snappier feel. It's written
entirely in C (as opposed to C++ in x0rfbserver classic, so it might
have fewer library dependency problems, eg, no c++ dependency), and uses
the libvncserver library.
