Hello,
VNC is great product; however, there is one component of its functionality I
believe needs modification.
Could the developers please add an option which, when enabled, would force
the Java viewer to use the same port for both the initial HTTP connection
and the subsequent RFB connection.
This is important because I access services on my server via an SSL-secured
portal. As a reult, all I need is a browser at the client computer. Also,
on the Web client side, I am restricted by a firewall I have no control over
- especially when I am on a customer's network. Additionally, I need the
RFB session encrypted at all times, which is why I use SSL.
It is therefore easier for me to use a brower for communication - without
the burden of having to lug around either a laptop or additional software I
may not be able to put on a customer's network. Furthermore, it is far more
convenient to support all communications over SSL, as it provides both
freedom of mobility and secuirty.
Currently, I am able connect to my portal and initiate, plus login, using
the VNC Java viewer; however, that is as far as I can get, because the
application persists in opening up an entirely new connection for the RFB
session.
I know it is possible to make the entire communication use one port, since I
am aware of a patched distribution (based on a 3.3.3 build). However, I
would appreciate if this capability could be rolled into the 4.X builds
going forward, so I am not forced to rely on older less efficient versions.
I have searched high and low for a way around this, and the only solution is
for both the Java HTTP and RFB sessions to use the exact same port. If
implemented as an option that can be enabled/disabled, this addition would
not impact those who prefer the current behavior. I know that I am not the
only person requesting this capability, as I have read similar request on
the mailing lists. Furthermore, some of the technical hurdles some users
are having to go through, as evidenced by some of the mailing list
discussions, could be easiliy resolved by adding the capabilities I have
requested.
Thanks in advance.
Idon
