Thanks for the info Tim... I looked through your bugzilla bug linked in your earlier posts, i alterned that /etc/sysconfig/vncservers and rebooted but it didn't work..
VNCSERVERS="1:jim" for loggin in as jim.. that look ok? I've found other posts about using xdinitd or whatever.. I'm sorry a linux newbie, well someone who hasn't used it enough recently in this way to know what all these config files mean or how they're spelt.. nothing i've done worked.. Anyways your bugzilla report actually helped me anyways... i didn't realise i could just ssh in and type the vncserver.. this is perfectly acceptible for me.. I am just wondering if i turn off the xdmcp options in gdmconfig will that close any "security" holes i'd opened up by trying to allow network login.. its just crucial i could operate my machine without a monitor or keyboard directly connected.. this ssh-ing in and starting the server does the job... Finally.. is this hanging problem, only a problem for WindowsXP.. your bugzilla statement says so... so if i install windows2000 this wont be a problem???
