A couple of reasons:

1) I've been following the fedora list, and it appears to me that they
released FC 1 *way* too early. There have been many threads where people
have been unable to compile or run things that came in the distro, etc. One
of the nice things about RHL's release cycle was that they had newer stuff
than Debian and friends, but still had the time to ensure that a polished,
stable release came out. Sure, they needed updates, but I only found one
thing that didn't work right from the CD (though now I can't remember which
thing it was...LOL).

2) Fedora's release cycle is about every 4 months. They'll only support
security updates for about 2-3 months after that. So, the way I figure it,
FC 2 will be out about March and security patches will be available until
about May. Since RHL 9 will continue to have security patches until April,
I figure that I can hold off on FC 1 (what with all of the problems I'm
seeing on their mailing list, I literally see between 200 and 400 messages a
DAY on that list!) and wait until FC 2, to see if they're settling down. If
not, I may try another distro.

3) Fedora's release cycle means that I will have to upgrade my home server a
minimum of once per year, possibly as many times as three times a year, just
to maintain security patches. If that box was just my desktop, that
wouldn't be a problem. Since I use it for email, development, etc, I have a
bunch of stuff installed. When I reloaded it with RHL 9, it was a
non-trivial exercise, and I don't want to have to go through that several
times a year. I'd buy RHEL, but I simply don't have the money. *sigh*

RHL was perfect for me. I wish it was still around.
